Using the Library

Registering for a Library Card

Anyone living, working, or attending school in Ohio may obtain a free Greater Access Library card upon showing your current address and a picture ID. If you have a Greater Access card from one of the Clevnet Libraries, such as Hudson or Twinsburg, you can use it in Peninsula. Consent of a parent or guardian is required for children to receive library cards.

Loan Periods

Books, Books on Tape: 14 days
Periodicals, Encyclopedias, Records: 14 days
Special Reference Loan: 1 day
New Release Video/DVD’s: 2 days
Other Videotapes/DVD’s: 7 days

Reserves

Any circulating book or book on tape that is checked out to another patron may be placed on reserve. If there are multiple requests for an item, this reserve service is similar to a waiting list. You may request an item to be placed on reserve in person, online, or by calling 330-657-2291.

Renewals

If you can’t get your books back in time, call us at 330-657-2291 and renew them over the phone. Books can also be renewed online. As long as no one has requested them, books can be renewed twice. Video/DVD’s and special one-day reference loans may not be renewed.

Automatic Renewals

How will automatic renewals work?

The system will attempt to automatically renew materials one day before an item is due.

Materials CANNOT be renewed if:

  • Someone else has placed a hold on the item.
  • The item has reached its renewal limit (renewal limits vary by library system).
  • Your account is blocked due to excess fines or fees.

If an item CANNOT be renewed, you will receive a courtesy due soon notice (via PHONE, EMAIL, or SMS Text) the evening before your materials are due.

Please note: This service does not apply to digital materials (i.e. Overdrive), only physical materials.

To review and update your notification options, please visit https://www.clevnet.org/netnotice# for instruction

Returns

All materials borrowed must be returned to one of the Clevnet Libraries. If unable to come in person, you may return materials by mail to the Peninsula Library. If borrowed materials are sent to the library, it is recommended that you request a return receipt form from the post office to ensure materials are received.

Fines

Overdue fines are not charged to punish borrowers. Instead, the goal is to have library materials returned so that they are available to other library patrons.

Adult Materials: $0.05 per day
Children’s Materials: $0.05 per day
Videocassettes/DVD’s: $1.00 per day
The maximum fine for any item is the replacement cost of that item.

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges

Patron borrowing privileges will be suspended if the amount of unpaid fines reaches $10.00.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

If we do not have a book, we can borrow materials from another Clevnet Library or the Akron-Summit County Public Library. If neither the Clevnet System or ASCPL have the item, we can help you locate a library that does.

Recommend Titles

If there is a book, videotape, audiotape, periodical, or electronic resource you would like the library to add to the collection, please request a “Suggestion for Library Purchase” form at the circulation desk. You will be notified if the item is purchased. If the item cannot be purchased due to collection policy or budget constraints, the library will locate the item and recommend how you may access it through Clevnet or interlibrary loan services.
