A reference librarian is available the majority of the time the library is open. Questions about the status of circulating materials, programs and events, and other general information can be answered immediately. When a librarian is not available, and your question cannot be fully answered by the library staff, a “Reference Inquiry” form will be filled out. A librarian will review your inquiry and contact you as to how they can be of help. Peninsula Library patrons can also access the 24/7 online reference service of the Clevnet System (KnowItNow 24×7).
Local History Research
The Peninsula Library & Historical Society built the Roush Room in 1990 to preserve and make available the special collection of books, pamphlets, cemetery records, clippings, correspondence, and privately written histories pertaining to Boston Township and the Village of Peninsula. This special collection does not circulate, but most of it is available to be photocopied. Historical collections curator, Randolph Bergdorf, is available by appointment for extended reference assistance. Please call 330-657-2291.
Computer Services & Internet Access
Four computer terminals are available to the public and are located to the right of the circulation desk. Please review the library’s computing and internet access policy posted near the computers and available as a handout. Persons wishing to use a computer must sign in at the circulation desk. Computers may be reserved in advance, for up to one hour during busy periods.
The computers run on Windows NT and have full Internet access, through Netscape or Internet Explorer. In addition, the library makes available the following programs: MS Office 97, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and MS Access.
Users may not bring their own software programs or hardware to load or utilize with the library’s hard drive. Users may save documents, or Internet downloads only to their own 3.5″ disks only. 3.5″ diskettes are available for $1.00 at the circulation desk.
All of the computers print to an HP Laserjet. All copies from the printer are 10 cents per 8.5 x 11” page. Color copies may also be printed from the computers and are 50 cents per 8.5 x 11” page. You are responsible for all items printed, including mistakes. If you are not familiar with limiting page print settings, please ask for assistance at the circulation desk.
The library offers photocopying service performed by the library staff at the circulation desk. Formats available: single or double sided black and white or color photocopies on sided black and white or color photocopies on paper. Please ask for the list of rates.
Service facsimile (fax) transmissions can be sent or received at a cost of 15 cents per page. Long distance faxes must be billed to a telephone debit card.
