Eclipse 2024
As has been widely reported, our area will be experiencing a total eclipse on April 8.  The last eclipse of this sort occurred in 1806.  Many travel and tourism websites are directing eclipse watchers to the Cuyahoga Valley.  Local entities, such as the Summit County Emergency Management Agency and the Summit County Public Health District, are advising residents to stay home.  The prediction is that visitors will begin arriving on April 6 (The state motto is “arrive early, stay late”).  The time of biggest concern is immediately after the eclipse is over when everyone is trying to leave at the same time.  We advise our patrons to plan for the eclipse as if it was a major weather event.  Have sufficient food and water and make sure your prescriptions are filled.  Because of the anticipated crowds, the Peninsula Library board voted at their meeting on February 20 to close both the library and the museum for the weekend.  Both facilities will be closed on Saturday, April 6 through Monday, April 8.
